TransportCamp
TransportCamp is returning to University of Sydney on 19 July (8:30 am-4:30 pm).
The TransportCamp Sydney ‘unconference’ will bring together transport professionals, researchers and technologists interested in how transport and technology can help improve mobility in urban environments. TransportCamp is a global phenomenon
Recent advances in technology—mobile apps, open source software, open data and spatial analysis—present an opportunity to improve mobility more immediately and at a lower cost than has ever been possible in the past.
TransportCamp raises awareness of this opportunity and builds connections and knowledge between the often siloed innovators in public administration, transport operations, urban planning and entrepreneurship.
It is the only event where the attendees set the agenda and collaborate to determine what are the key topics they want to hear about and discuss.
TransportLab Seminars
In addition to presentations from our PhD students, TransportLab Seminar series hosts speakers from all over the world. If you’d like to join the seminars in person or over Zoom, please contact Emily to join the list (emily.moylan@sydney.edu.au). Our recent speakers include:

Appearances
Andrés Fielbaum gave a webinar entitled ‘Transforming Public Transport: The Role of On-Demand Mobility in Network Design’ at Universidad de Chile
Andrés Fielbaum presented ‘On the relationship between free public transport, stop spacing, and optimal frequencies’ at the Online Technical Conferences of AITPM
Jennifer Kent presented at the Sydney Summit and the Raising the Bar series on pets on public transport and was subsequently interviewed and featured by a series of news outlets including SBS Dutch, Time Out and the Sydney Morning Herald (paywall). The highlight of this media attention was a citation of her work by the Prime Minister’s dog – Toto – who drew on her analysis to call for dogs to be allowed to use Australia’s public transport systems with their owners in an opinion piece (paywall). The idea of allowing dogs to jump aboard Sydney’s trains (with certain restrictions based on time of trip, spatial restrictions and breed of dog) was put to transport secretary at the Sydney Summit, Josh Murray, who publicly agreed that allowing “pets on public transport is a big issue and it’s not going to go away”. This was followed up in June, where Jennifer was invited to address a “pawtest” outside of the NSW Parliament House to allow pets on public transport.
Jennifer Kent was invited to address the NSW Parliamentary Inquiry into the Planning system and the impacts of climate change on the environment and communities (nsw.gov.au).
David Levinson spoke at the inquiry into current and future public transport needs in Western Sydney - February May 5
David Levinson spoke at the Community Forum on the North Sydney Council Integrated Transport Strategy - June 12
David Levinson spoke at the Legislative Assembly Committee on Transport and Infrastructure - June 13
David Levinson gave a keynote Talk at WSTLUR: Bogotá Colombia, del 17 al 20 de Junio del 2024
Emily Moylan spoke on the AITPM International Women’s Day Panel on 7 March.
